Various sets of Japanese paper

“Sora”

Like the vast sky above, the paper in showsoku’s Treasure Box is a blank canvas awaiting your words and your art. Let your heart express itself freely.

-Hanshi size

Hanshi paper is made in the traditional, standard size and thickness used for Japanese calligraphy.

-Origami size

Write a message to yourself or to someone special to you, and fold it into a crane – a symbol of longevity and good fortune – to hold your secret message.

*This is about two or three times the thickness of standard hanshi. The edges are cut for crisp lines, while the texture of the paper itself remains.

-Scroll style

Paper in this format is rare nowadays but was the standard in the olden days of Japan. Words were written from right to left and rolled into thin scrolls for delivery. (The left and right edges of the scrolls retain the raw edges, or “ears,” while the top and bottom are cut.)

*This is also two or three times the thickness of standard hanshi, but cut as a single, long piece of paper.

-Business Card size

This size will fit in smart phone cases and wallets. Write your aspirations, dreams or words that are special to you and carry them with you.

*This paper is about five to six times the thickness of standard hanshi. It is rich in texture and retains its raw edges, or “ears,” and the warmth of handmade products. This paper comes in three sizes in showsoku’s Treasure Box. (Business Card size, Postcard size and Greeting Card size)

-Postcard size

Put your words or your art on this washi postcard as a simple yet thoughtful way to send a quick hello or to share your thoughts.

-Greeting Card size

This is double the length of the Postcard size paper. Excellent for use as a greeting card when folded in half, this can also be used as a small canvas for your art. This paper is about five to six times the thickness of standard hanshi. It is rich in texture and retains its raw edges, or “ears,” and the warmth of handmade products.
